Your lower legs do a lot of quiet work. Every run, hike, game and shift on your feet runs through the shins, calves and Achilles. When that area feels tight or tired, some clients at Total Muscle Therapy in Lehi ask for more than massage alone. This short clip shows one combination our therapists sometimes use: cupping on the shin, followed by kinesiology tape on the calf and Achilles.
What you’re seeing in this video
The clip is a four-panel grid:
- Top left: a “before” photo of the client’s feet.
- Top right: cups placed along the shin, the front of the lower leg, with cupping tools on the table.
- Bottom left: red kinesiology tape on the calf and Achilles while the client stands on a blue step.
- Bottom right: an “after” photo of the feet.
It’s a quick 16-second look at the sequence, not a before-and-after promise. Every client’s results are different.
What is kinesiology tape?
Kinesiology tape is a stretchy cotton tape with an adhesive backing. Unlike the stiff athletic tape used to lock an ankle in place, it’s designed to move with you. Therapists apply it in specific patterns depending on the area and what you’re doing.
Many athletes like wearing it between sessions because it gives the area a feeling of support and a reminder to pay attention to how it’s moving. Research on taping is mixed, so we don’t promise it will do any one thing. Plenty of clients simply like how it feels, especially when they’re getting back into training.
Who it’s for
- Runners building mileage on the Murdock Canal Trail or the Jordan River Parkway
- Basketball, volleyball and pickleball players who spend a lot of time on their toes
- Hikers coming down the steep trails around Traverse Mountain
- Anyone on their feet all day who wants extra attention on the lower leg
If you have a fresh injury, significant swelling or pain that’s getting worse, see a doctor first. Taping and massage aren’t a replacement for a medical evaluation.
What to expect at Total Muscle Therapy in Lehi
Lower-leg work like this usually falls under our injury massage. Your therapist will ask what’s bothering you, may move your foot and ankle through a few motions, and will choose from techniques like cupping, percussive massage, scraping and hands-on work. If taping makes sense for you, they’ll apply it at the end and explain how long to leave it on.
Sessions include a consultation, the bodywork and recovery stretches, in 30, 60 or 90 minutes. A 30-minute session ($70) can work well for one lower leg, while 60 minutes ($130) leaves time for both legs and feet. See our pricing page for packs. We’re on 1200 West in Lehi, close for clients coming from American Fork and Saratoga Springs.
FAQs
How long can I leave kinesiology tape on?
Your therapist will give you specific instructions. Many people wear it for a few days. Take it off sooner if your skin itches, gets red or feels irritated.
Can I shower with the tape on?
Most kinesiology tapes are made to handle water. Pat the tape dry afterward instead of rubbing it, and ask your therapist if you’re unsure.
Does cupping on the shin hurt?
Most people feel a pulling sensation rather than pain. The shin has less padding than the back, so your therapist will usually use lighter suction there.
Do I need cupping to get taped?
No. Cupping and taping are separate tools. Your therapist will use whichever ones fit what you need.
